TCC submits memorandum to Prime Minister
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Inviting the attention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to certain issues concerning the development of the capital, the Thiruvananthapuram Chamber of Commerce (TCC) has submitted a memorandum to the PM. Requesting the immediate attention and Central assistance, the memorandum was submitted by the TCC along with the Trivandrum Management Association, Trivandrum Agenda Task Force and Trivandrum Development Front during the PM’s visit to the State on Friday. Development of the National Highway from the capital to Kanyakumari, extension of STPI tax benefits, development of Vizhinjam International Trans- shipment Container Terminal and development of Kochuveli Railway Terminal are the major demands raised by the group. As major institutions like Technopark, Technocity, the International Airport Terminal, new inter-state long distance bus terminal, Kovalam, Poovar and the proposed Vizhinjam Container Transshipment Terminal are aligned along the stretch, development of NH 47 is crucial, the memorandum said.
The two-lane road is expected to be more congested in the near future, it said. The memorandum suggests development of NH 47 as a six-lane expressway with service roads from Attingal to Vizhinjam. It also requests construction of grade separators at Kazhakkoottam, Chackai, Enchakkal, Thiruvallom, Kovalam, Mukkola, Vizhinjam Port Link Junction etc.
